INSTALLATION |
How easy is it to install? |
You
can
choose where to place your software. The best choice is the default one,
C:\, if you choose anything else you may have problems.
|
MAIN FEATURES |
What
is it used for? What are it's main features? |
This
software has been specifically designed for dyslexics. It covers most
areas of dyslexia. I feel it is very comprehensive.

GUIDES FOR USE |
Are there instructions/a manual? How easy are they to follow? | |
EASE OF USE |
How easy is it to use with a common sense approach? |
a)
It's easy to get into, but not out of. If you want to do this quickly
you need to press 'control/alt/delete'.
b) Written manual would be better if sections were numbered in contents page and then in main body of text also. c) The overall design and navigation concept of the house is very helpful in many ways. Not least to illustrate that sometimes structure needs to be imposed. I find that structure aids learning, memory and success. |
GOOD POINTS |
What do you feel are the most helpful features for dyslexics? |
a)
The room map in the program is a brilliant idea, it helps you to know
where you are and how to get to other places.
b) It is useful when it tells you in speech what something is when you point to it. c) The content of the learning styles room and the questionnaire are both excellent. Being able to have the questions read aloud to you is also excellent. |
BAD POINTS |
What is disappointing about this software? |
Not
being able to to get out of bits of the program without listening to the
whole lot is a real pain and flies in the face of the way a dyslexic like
myself works. To be able to go forwards and backwards and into any bit
at random would give you complete control over your learning, rather than
being controlled by the structure.
Some of the rooms have too much in them. This is mitigated a little by the map of all the rooms which helps stop the confusion of where things are. The content of rooms as well as the rooms themselves should be shown to aid navigation within and through the program. |
VALUE FOR MONEY |
How much does it cost and is it good value? |
It
costs £125 (+vat)
I'm a careful Mancunian, so it needs to be unbelievably good to be good value, but it is good and our dyslexia group would buy it. Nevertheless, it is flawed because the user does not have control in terms of where s/he goes and what they can do and when. |
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS |
Any
other comments? Ways it could be improved? |
The
map of Wordswork is excellent. This is a program that is basically good,
but could be made excellent with some changes.
N.B. It would be nice if other rooms could be added after the program is initially installed and if things could be added to and deleted from rooms. Being able to modify the rooms yourself would be very useful. |

@@@Useful
Would be excellent if you had more control, to move at will through the program or program sections. |
